Teachers play a vital role not only in education but also in promoting the health and well-being of children and young people. On World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate their contribution to building inclusive, supportive and healthy learning environments worldwide.
This year’s theme, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures”, highlights the importance of recognising teachers’ work and ensuring they have the support and resources they need to thrive.
At the UNESCO Chair on ‘Physical Activity and Health in Educational Settings’ at the University of Basel and Nelson Mandela University, we believe that teachers are key partners in fostering active, healthy and supportive school communities. Through Quality Physical Education (QPE), practical teaching resources and international collaboration, we work to empower educators and create learning environments where children have the opportunity to learn, move and flourish.
Through KaziBantu, with its vision of 'Healthy Schools for Healthy Communities', we support teachers in promoting physical activity, health and well-being in schools, helping to build healthier futures for children ('KaziKidz', 'KaziPlay'), teachers ('KaziHealth') and their communities. Today, we stand with teachers worldwide - supporting teachers means investing in healthier schools and a healthier future.
