The UNESCO Chair's research supports the goals of World Heart Day.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death worldwide. Taken together, diseases of the heart or blood vessels - such as heart attacks, strokes and heart failure - are the cause of more than 20.5 million deaths each year. Most of these deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. By making small changes in our lifestyle - what we eat and drink, how much we exercise and how we manage stress - we can take better control of our heart health.

The UNESCO Chair's research aims to contribute to and support the goals of World Heart Day (which takes place on 29 September) to improve access to services and information on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and empower people to take responsibility for their own health.
