UNESCO Chair contributes to Africa strategy from Switzerland
The Africa Strategy 2025–28 is rooted in a long-term partnership between Switzerland and Africa.
The dynamics at play on the African continent impact directly on Europe and on Switzerland. Approved by the Federal Council, the Africa Strategy 2025–28 is rooted in a long-term partnership between Switzerland and Africa. The UNESCO Chair on 'Physical Activity and Health in Educational Settings' from the University of Basel, Nelson Mandela University and Swiss TPH contributes to this through its vision and mission, thematically anchored in SDGs 3 (Good health and well-being) and 4 (Quality education).
Its longstanding circular approach of innovation, validation and application, geographically localized with leading partners from Southern Africa, aims to implement Switzerland's Africa strategy to the best of its ability within its means and to strive for a thematic fit. Prof. Dr. Cheryl Walter met with Ms Kgomotso Austin, Programme Officer Science and Technology, Embassy of Switzerland to South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mauritius and Namibia on Thursday 22 May. Prof. Walter updated Ms Austin on the current KaziBantu project work in schools in Gqeberha, which forms part of the UNESCO Chair on 'Physical Activity and Health in Educational Settings'. They also discussed various research funding applications and opportunities.
