The ninth edition of the Swiss Platform Education 2030 took place on October 1, 2025, at the Kursaal in Bern.

With the “Swiss Platform Education 2030”, the Swiss UNESCO Commission intended to promote exchange on the Education 2030 agenda, support networking, and created synergies for the successful implementation of the agenda in Switzerland. The aim of the conference was to explore how the UNESCO recommendation can be implemented in different cantons and educational institutions at all levels. What opportunities and obstacles arise? How do participants assess this for themselves and their institutions?

Who is the recommendation aimed at? The recommendation is aimed at those interested in education and at institutions in the formal (state schools and universities) and non-formal, extracurricular education sectors. However, the UNESCO recommendation can also be useful for informal learning in everyday life, both within and outside the family. The Swiss Commission for UNESCO has commissioned a study to take stock of the UNESCO recommendation in relation to Swiss reference documents and curricula in order to identify potential and gaps for implementation. The event presented and discussed both the content of the UNESCO recommendation and the results of the aforementioned study.

The Swiss Commission for UNESCO intended that personal assessments were exchanged in small groups and compared in a plenary session. The Swiss UNESCO Commission hopes that the outcome of the conference will provide indications of how the recommendation can unfold its potential for Switzerland and what needs to be done to achieve this. This will also help to prepare for the implementation report to UNESCO Headquarters, which is due in three years' time.

The UNESCO Chair team from the University of Basel, Nelson Mandela University and Swiss TPH has been contributing to this evidence generation for now over 10 years with its joint research work on topics such as public health and sports science in educational settings.
