KaziBantu follow-up study has started

SNSF supports KaziBantu follow-up study with 300'000 CHF

The Swiss National Science Foundation is supporting the South Africa project. The aim of this supplementary study is to track the high cardiovascular risk found in school children and teachers of the KaziBantu Project and to provide comprehensive evidence-based documentation. Within the newly approved project, Patricia Arnaiz from DSBG and Larissa Adams from Nelson Mandela University will complete their PhD work. Grantholder is Prof Dr Uwe PĆ¼hse.

In the follow-up project, the long-term improvement and maintenance of health effects on metabolic risk factors for non-communicable diseases after school-based lifestyle intervention in high-risk children and teachers will be investigated. Furthermore, the long-term feasibility, acceptance, implementation, maintenance and dissemination of the interventions of KaziKidz (teaching materials for primary school children) and KaziHealth (health program for teachers) will be analyzed and evaluated. The study will be conducted in close collaboration between the DSBG, the Nelson Mandela University, the Department of Education of Port Elizabeth and the Swiss TPH in Basel.
