EURAXESS Africa supports researchers in Africa in connecting with international research opportunities, funding programmes and collaboration networks across Europe. The initiative provides information and resources for researchers at all career stages and across disciplines.
International collaboration is a central part of the UNESCO Chair on ‘Physical Activity and Health in Educational Settings’ at the University of Basel and Swiss TPH. Through its long standing partnership with Nelson Mandela University in South Africa, the Chair is committed to strengthening research, education and knowledge exchange between Africa and Europe.
In this context, EURAXESS Africa offers an important platform for researchers and institutions seeking opportunities for international collaboration. The initiative of the European Commission provides free access to information on research funding, research positions, fellowships, mobility opportunities and partnerships between Africa and Europe. This role is embedded in the broader EU Africa partnership, where the EU and African Union work together to strengthen long term cooperation in research and innovation through policy dialogue and joint priorities.
For researchers working at the intersection of physical activity, health, education and public health, EURAXESS Africa can be a valuable resource for developing new collaborations, supporting researcher mobility and connecting with international research networks. These opportunities complement the UNESCO Chair’s commitment to collaborative research, capacity building and South-North as well as South-South-North cooperation. The UNESCO Chair encourages researchers and institutions interested in strengthening Africa-Europe partnerships in education, health and physical activity research to explore the opportunities offered by EURAXESS Africa.
